WOW. Wow on so many levels... WOW.
I thought of you and Julie this weekend when I listened to two sermons that I missed. (Guess who slept through her alarm for two hours and missed the 8am service =( On the 11/11-12 sermon, John talked a bit about the word Evangelical...and how it had become so polluted by political overtones...and in the 11/4-5 sermon, Steve preached on the 1 Corinthians passage about head coverings, haircuts, etc. (Side note...about 20 of the women on staff covered our heads with scarves,doilies, bandannas, etc. and silently filed through a meeting of the pastoral management team to "honor" Steve before he preached on this important topic. Our executive pastor almost fell off his chair he was laughing so hard...and John's eyes were as big as saucers.) I loved the way that Steve made connections between the "when the women pray and prophesy in church they should keep their heads covered" passage and the "women should be silent" passage... in a way that honored the text and the women who were listening. Wished Julie could and I could have had a conversation about it. Those two sermons aren't up yet...but they'll be posted here.
