Wanting to do more...
This morning my pastor told me about how three plane loads of hurricane refugees were being sent to the Chicago area and would be staying in our local homeless shelters until some longer term resettlement options could be found. Pastor Fran was saying how he'd love for our church to be able to do something for them, maybe getting the whole church to sponsor the resettlement of a family or two. Julie and I were also thinking about how much we want to do something tangible and real, and we were struck with the thought that we have this condo here that we're trying to rent out after we move to Yorkville in two weeks. Unfortunately we simply cannot afford to eat the $1200+ per month that it would cost us in mortgage and utilities to keep a family here. Maybe if we were more stable financially or weren't trying to raise missionary support already we could just do it, but it's just not feasible at this point in our lives.

But it got us thinking that if there was possibily anyone at our church, or even anyone out there in the blogosphere reading this that would want to help us sponsor a family by covering those monthly costs, we'd love to offer our space to a family in need. I don't know if that's a crazy idea or what, but if you're interested in helping make that possibility a reality drop me an email at mike.clawson@gmail.com. Maybe we could route any donations through the church so that they'd all be tax deductible. I don't know. We just want to do whatever we can to help those suffering families that have lost everything.
