Mleh, I doubt the Republican platform is "I don't want a cure for AIDs or cancer." Stuff like this just encourages both sides to talk past each other.

You're right, it's probably closer to "I don't want the government to invest any public funds in finding a cure for AIDS or cancer (especially AIDS since only immoral people get that)." (Or maybe it's "We should encourage medical research by giving tax breaks and subsidies to big pharmaceutical companies who have a vested interest in their own research, rather than to independent scientific organizations.")

But that was sort of the point IMHO. The video portrayed not just the literal Republican positions, but also the practical effects and implications of their policies.
