Zondervan and World Vision have put out a new
Faith in Action Study Bible that highlights how the words of scripture can be lived out in an active, passionate, and compassionate way in our world today. The driving motivation behind this study bible seems to be the verse in James that says "Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." (James 1:22) I was especially struck by one particular phrase that they use in the preface about this bible that I thought was a great summary of the difference between our modern evangelical approaches to faith, and the emerging, more progressive understanding of faith. They said this bible was designed to help people move from
"looking at Christianity as a view of life to embracing it as a way of life. I think that sums it all up right there. Is your faith just all about believing the right things so you'll go to some good place when you die, or is it about beginning to reorient the rhythm and pattern of your life after the way of Jesus and towards the heart of God?
